Great Businesses Begin With Great Collaboration: An Ode to 2017
Let's take a quick trip down memory lane when Improbable Escapes first opened in the summer of 2015. We were brand new to the Kingston community and moved here specifically to start our business. A few months prior, we visited many cities in south-eastern and south-western Ontario, to learn more about each community and see if it would be a good fit for Improbable Escapes.
Prior to visiting Kingston, neither of us (Emma or Melissa), knew anything about Kingston. We knew about Queen's University and Royal Military College of Canada but didn't know much more than that. When we visited, we quickly fell in love with the city and knew that this would be the city where we should create our business. Fast forward about a month, we dropped everything and moved to Kingston to start our first location at 298 Bagot Street.

The two of us were in a brand new city and didn't know anyone. Not one soul. However, after announcing our plans to open, many people came to us and were willing to help us! We learned a lot of valuable building skills, business acumen, and become connected with many great businesses in our community. After our first year at 298 Bagot Street, we decided to move across the street to 303 Bagot Street (inside the LaSalle Mews).
Fast forward about three years: we are embedded in a community that supports and strengthens us. For that, we are forever grateful.
We've had the opportunity to work with many amazing businesses, whether it was during some of our downtown Kingston games like Date Night, Catch Me Outside, or Dashing Through The Show, or by working together on some other projects. We’re so grateful to be supported by the following businesses that have helped us in one way or another:
- Alchemy House Jewellery
- CRAVE Coffee House & Bakery
- Minotaur
- Kingston Gaming Nexus
- Southpaw Cat Cafe
- The VR Hut
- Black Dog Hospitality Group
- Tango Neuvo
- 1000 Islands Soup Company
- Immerse Wellness Centre
- Chumleighs
- BSE
- Agent 99
- The Rocking Horse
- Crossfit Queen Street
- Musiikki Cafe
- BentoSMB
- St. Lawrence Parks Commission
- Parks Canada
- Cher Mere Day Spa
and so many more!
With 2017 now done, and 2018 slowly beginning, we are so grateful to all these businesses and organizations for helping us. They were able to help us grow, and we tried our hardest to help them in any way we could to show our appreciation and give back to the community. Kingston is a strong community, and we love that we are able to work alongside businesses and business owners that try to raise each other up instead of bringing each other down. For that, we’re forever grateful.
In 2018, we hope to meet and interact with more businesses and business owners. Who would you like to see us collaborate with this year?
